Nuclear safety is important for the future of nuclear energy and itsnumerous applications. We welcome the Agency’s meetings of the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Regulators’ Forum Steering Committee and its Working Group. With a global increase in utilization of nuclear technology for peacefulapplications, the safety of nuclear installations has become of paramountimportance and in this regard, the Agency has been striving towardspromoting and maintaining a strong and effective global framework innuclear safety. We commend Agency’s efforts in assisting member stateseither considering or planning the introduction of nuclear power orradiation technology, for establishing or strengthening their respectivesafety infrastructure, regulatory framework and competency in relevantareas.

The different national, regional and international meetings along with imPACT review missions, and technical and consultancy meetings organized by the Agency, make a valuable contribution towards enhancing radiation protection andsafety of the occupational workers and patients undergoing treatment usingnuclear medicine.
