The Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) which is an apex Government body of the exporters of Indian silk & silk blend products from all over India is organizing 16th India International Silk Fair 19 - 21 December 2023 at Yashobhoomi, IICC – India International Convention & Expo Centre (New Delhi).
India is the second-largest producer of silk in the world. The country's sericulture industry employs around 9.76 million people in rural and semi-urban areas. The industry is one of the largest foreign exchange earners for the country. The Indian Silk Industry is very dynamic as it is the only country in the world which produces all commercial varieties of silk namely Tassar, Muga, Eri and Mulberry. Silk produced in India has its own uniqueness in terms of better strength, ability to absorb dyes, ruggedness, brightness and lustre, fall, feel, drape etc.
The Indian Silk is unique not only because it has distinguished and distinct characters when compared to silk from other countries but also due to the fact that the processes and technologies used are different and varied from cluster to cluster. The variety and diversity in these clusters is because of the weaving styles, patterns of designs, accessories and equipment used, technology employed skill levels preference for designs and motives, colour combination etc.
