June 2022 India Statement Agenda 9 Ukraine

India’s statement at the Board of Governors ( 06 to 10 June 2022)

Agenda item 6 - “The safety, security and safeguards implications of the situation in Ukraine

Mr. Chairperson,

India reiterates its call for immediate cessation of violence and an end to hostilities in Ukraine. We support all efforts to end the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

We continue to follow carefully the developments in Ukraine regarding the safety and security of Ukraine’s nuclear power reactors and facilities, including the recent updates from DG, IAEA in this regard.

India values the common aim of nuclear security and safety to protect human health, society, and environment; and acknowledges Agency’s statutory functions with respect to nuclear safety.

In this regard, India notes the ongoing collaboration between the Agency and Ukraine’s authorities towards ensuring safety and security of Ukrainian nuclear installations, including provision of technical assistance to Ukraine.

We also note efforts by Director General to lead an expert Mission to Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

India would continue to follow closely the Agency updates on the safety and security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, and to keep the Board informed, as appropriate.

I thank you.
