IAEA BOG resolution ‘NPT Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran’

As we have  stated earlier on this subject,

We appreciate DG,  and the Agency’s efforts to implement Safeguards Agreement in Iran.

We have also noted the latest report by the DGon the implementation of Safeguards Agreement and his conclusions about outstanding safeguards issues in respect of Iran. The report mentions that the Agency will conduct a technical visit to Tehran before the end of the month, on matters related to the outstanding safeguards issues.

We have maintained that the way forward is to progress the engagement between the Agency and Iran to clarify and resolve all outstanding safeguards issues to enable the Agency to provide an assurance of exclusively peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program. Towards this, we urge Iran to further cooperate constructively with the Agency without delay.

It is for these reasons that India has decided to abstain on the resolution.
