November 2022 India Statement Agenda 4&5C on Iran

India’s Statement at the IAEA Board of Governors Meeting (16-18 November 2022)

Agenda Item 4 – “Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in the light of UNSC Resolution 2231” and Agenda Item 5(c) “NPT Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Mr. Chairperson,

In the interest of time, our statement covers both Agenda Item 4 and Agenda Item 5(c).

India has taken note of the recent reports of the Director General on the subjects ‘Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015),’ and on “NPT Safeguards with the Islamic Republic of Iran”. We value Director General’s efforts to implement the Agency’s verification and monitoring activities in Iran.

India attaches high importance to Agency’s ability to provide an assurance of exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme. In this regard, we note that the DG’s report mentions that Agency officials will visit Tehran before the end of the month for a technical meeting on matters related to the outstanding safeguards issues. We hope that the meeting will further the aim of effectively clarifying and resolving these issues.

India reiterates its support for peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy. We once again urge Iran to cooperate constructively with the IAEA to resolve all outstanding issues in a satisfactory manner.

I thank you
