March 7th 2022 India Statement Agenda 4 &5C Iran

India’s Statement

Agenda Item 4 – “Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in the light of UNSC Resolution 2231” and Agenda Item 5 (c) “NPT Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Mr. Chairperson,

In the interest of time, our statement covers both Agenda Item 4 and Agenda Item 5(c).

India has taken note of the recent reports of the Director General on the subjects ‘Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015),’ and on “NPT Safeguards with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

We commend Director General’s efforts to implement the Agency’s safeguards mandate as well as verification and monitoring activities in Iran including, his visit to Tehran last week.

The recent Joint Statement between IAEA and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) outlining mutually agreed exchanges and cooperation towards resolution of the unresolved safeguards issues is encouraging. We hope for productive cooperation and progress on these outstanding issues.

India reiterates its full support to peaceful resolution of all the outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

I thank you.
